Offering yoga for all levels, massage and body treatments, herbal and nutritional counseling from AHG Herbalist and owner Jill Ruttenberg, and (edible!) lessons in the organic greenhouse.
A Retreat for the Whole Person. AmaTierra’s goal is to create a sanctuary, an escape from the rigors of daily life and a place to truly rejuvenate in a beautiful rainforest setting. Wellness therapies, healthy food shared with others on the balcony incorporating produce from our organic garden, and a cared for and carefree atmosphere allow our guests to leave here with renewed energy and a glimpse of traditional Costa Rican culture.
Next you will head to Finca Luna Nueva Lodge. Finca Luna Nueva is an organic-biodynamic herbal estate and rainforest lodge that preserves natural resources while farming organic ginger, turmeric, and other tropical fruits and vegetables.
Here you can hike with eco-guides and botanists through pristine rainforest where monkeys, sloths, and hundreds of species of birds and butterflies make their home. You will also learn about and view the working certified organic biodynamic herbal farm & estate. And of course, you will enjoy the natural Costa Rican cuisine – farm raised and chef prepared on-site.
At Finca Luna Nueva Lodge, the goal is to integrate local sustainable practices in agriculture, conservation, community, education and tourism in order to create a world-class experience for visitors.
You have the opportunity to add a seventh night at the fabulous Ark Herb Farm in Heredia – only 15 minutes from the airport. “A wonderful, off the beaten path retreat”
BUTTERFLYHOLLOW, TENNESSEE. REVIEW FROM TRIPADVISOR. JUNE 2010.
We shared our 20 year wedding anniversary at AmaTierra and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We filled our time with a few excursions, but mostly just soaking in the forest, the rhythm of its people, and the sounds of nature. Each day was started with a gentle yoga workout in their amazing studio and we pampered ourselves a few times with massages, which were some of the best we have ever had. The meals were phenomenal, the grounds were well maintained and the staff went above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and at home.

A TRIPADVISOR MEMBER, ASHLAND, OREGON
"I must say the one thing that is so memorable, besides the wonderful managers, is the delicious food they serve. All natural and organic from the local area markets. My partner and I stayed in a private, very clean casita that was surrounded by the magnificent rain forest and the many wild birds and small animals indigenous to the area. You're truly in mother-nature land !! On the property there is a hiking trail that leads to a meandering creek if you're adventurous. Your camera will not stop clicking, trust me on this one.
Our hosts (Bob & Jill) were amazing. Always around if you had a question or just wanted to chat..... Be Ready To Enjoy A Good Time.... !!
We're planning our next Costa Rican Adventure soon !! "
About Finca Lodge:
" How do I begin to describe this place? For a plant-lover like myself, this was paradise. Very impressed with how much of the food served at meals was grown on the property. And the care that goes into sustainably farming the ginger and turmeric is incredible.
But that's not even mentioning the freshly juiced fruits every morning, eating bananas off the tree, walking through the jungle, or the observation tower where we watched sloths climbing.
This was the first place I saw in Costa Rica and it just blew me away. I would also recommend checking out the volcano, Volcan Arenal, nearby and the hot springs at the base."
"I‘ll use the comparison to Avalon in folklore as to how I felt about my visit to Luna Nueva; it was like I passed through a veil of mist into Paradise…what a magical landscape!
The grounds and luscious gardens were meticulously landscaped with waterfalls, fountains and stonework walkways. All the furniture was crafted from local woods. The accommodations were beautiful and luxurious in simplicity: firm beds, hot showers, fresh linens and towels were provided. Ceiling fans and screened windows helped keep the climate comfortable.
Meals were delicious, fresh and healthy - all that I would ever want and really need to sustain my culinary happiness. Black beans and rice, choices of fish and chicken, fried yucca seasoned with tumeric and ginger (organic and bio-dynamically homegrown, I might add), homemade tortillas, papayas, mangoes, white pineapple, homemade yogurt and cheese. Hmmm….the morning coffee…
The rainforest hikes were rigorous given the inclines, heat and humidity; yet glorious in all their detail, after which the pools offered a cool down.
At sunset we relaxed with friends on the commons (open air patio), some of us in hammocks, and watched monkeys and toucans settle among the trees. A 360 degree view of the horizon allowed such visual pleasures as the full moon rising and illuminating the clouds strewn over the distant volcanic mountains.
After dinner we sipped wine and observed a menagerie of moths, toads and lizards joining us on the patio, all to the music of tree frogs."
"The farm (Finca) Luna Nueva Lodge is a place tucked away in the tropical rain forest, with all of the comforts of home. My husband and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary at the farm, and we will always remember the kind hospitality, great food and lovely accommodations, and of course the many sights and sounds of nature. You can wake up early and see many birds, monkeys and other signs of the tropical rain forest natives. Have a cup of Costa Rican coffee or Yerba Matte tea and enjoy the fresh local delicious fruits and foods. I have never tasted fruit so fresh! Then there’s the fresh squeezed Ginger and Turmeric, wow that is great. There’s a sense of tranquility and yet there are many activities available to you. Living an organic lifestyle my husband and I were also impressed with the fact that because the farm is an organic, bio-dynamic- self-sustaining one, there was soap and shampoo/conditioner free of chemicals to use in the room. All of the farm’s lovely chairs, tables and other furniture pieces are all made of local re-claimed timber (no trees were cut). You will also get the best sleep EVER! (Think about it…if 70% of the world’s O2 comes from the rainforest…then you get the picture-you are in it!)
If you want to enjoy a slice of heaven here on earth, I recommend visiting La Finca Nueva Lodge.
