Sorry Lonely planet and Frommers, the glory days of travel books are coming to an end. Sure they can still be useful, but with the power of portable computing and internet connectivity, travelers are demanding more. We are demanding more than the bland, dated, text-based reviews. We want better, more relevant reviews, and curated information at the tips of our fingers without having to wade through the muck of mediocrity.
Here are 3 websites to help you get the inspiration to travel, and 3 websites to help you travel better:
3 Websites for visual exploration and inspiration:
One of Triptease’s strong points is that it curates only quality photos and experiences. So you won’t have to search for long to get some great inspiration.
#2. Pinterest…..Yes, Pinterest.
Search for great stays in Costa Rica and you’ll quickly dive into a world of bamboo thatch huts and stunning views of palm trees hanging over breaking waves. You’ll also quickly connect with people that have taken these photos and can give you some tips and suggestions based on their own experiences.
#3. AFAR “The experiential travel guide”
Its more of a magazine than a tool, but it is nevertheless a great place to find super high quality photos and articles to get your inspirational juices flowing about where you’ll go next.
3 Websites to help PLAN your next trip.
# 1. Find My Itn
Billed as an “easy way to build, share, and find your trips”, this website offers a powerful way to organize and document your travel plans. It tries to give you some structure to all the research and information that is possible out there in the big world of Google, Yelp, TripAdvisor, and so on.
Gogobot is built on trusted reviews from friends and traveler insiders. It’s sort of a yelp for traveler destinations, but is of course more travel focused and includes ways for you to share your experiences and even send digital post cards to loved ones back home.
Peek does a great job at giving you a shortlist of great experiences in major travel destinations, mostly around the US. There’s a lot of information out there, its great to have sites like this that highlight some of the major attractions and places it in a platform that allows for searching and actual booking.
